Creative Ghost | Four-Year Anniversary

Four Years In: How Creative Ghost Grew Up, Pivoted, and Found Its People

Woman with dark hair on a textured black background. Text: "FOUR YEARS IN: How Creative Ghost Grew Up, Pivoted, and Found Its People." Mood is introspective.

Four years ago, Creative Ghost started with a laptop, a deep belief that branding should feel more human, and a stubborn conviction that small business owners deserve better than confusing, expensive, overwhelming marketing.

A lot has changed since then. The services, the clients, the strategy — even the tools. But the reason this agency exists? That part hasn't budged an inch. Or.. a NUDGE. (IYKYK)

Here's where we've been, where we are now, and why none of it would have happened without the community that shaped it.

Starting Local, Building Real

Being based in Boone, Iowa has never felt like a limitation — it's felt like a superpower. Over the past four years, Creative Ghost has been built almost entirely on relationships: client-to-client referrals, collaboration with local creatives, and a genuine investment in what's happening in our own backyard.

This year, that community feel hit differently.

Clients are partnering with other clients. Local photographers are producing gallery-quality work that makes websites look like magazine features. The talent here is real, and getting to be the connector between all of it has been one of the most rewarding parts of running this agency.

"Every time I receive a photo gallery from a client that came from one of the photographers in town, I know it's going to be incredible — regardless of who shot it."

The Pivot: Less Social Media, More Strategy

If you knew Creative Ghost a few years ago, you knew us as a more traditional marketing and design agency — social media management, paid ads, the usual package.

That's not who we are anymore.

We've intentionally stepped back from social media management and paid advertising to go deeper into two areas where we can make a lasting difference: web development and brand strategy. We do still offer these kinds of services, but at a very different scale.

Brand strategy isn't just design. It's the blueprint for how a business shows up in the world — the who, what, why, and personality behind every touchpoint. Without that foundation, marketing is just guessing. With it, everything starts to click.

Our background in psychology and art therapy actually makes us well-suited for this work.

Understanding how people think, what drives decision-making, and how to help businesses find alignment with their audience — that's not just marketing.

That's applied consumer psychology.

"Your brand is the blueprint of how you're marketable as a company. Without it, you're literally just stabbing in the dark."

Wix Legend Status (and Why It Matters for You)

We also hit a milestone this year that we're really proud of: Creative Ghost is officially a Wix Legend Provider.

To earn that status, you have to publish a significant volume of websites on the platform. We've done that — and then some. We use Wix internally now too, which has saved us real money and given us a firsthand understanding of the platform that benefits every client we bring onto it.

The Hybrid Model: Done-For-You Meets Do-It-With-You

One of the things we hear most from business owners is that they don't want someone to take over their business forever. They want to understand it. They want to feel confident navigating it themselves.

Depending on where you are and what you need, we might:

  • Walk you through your website backend on a screen share over coffee

  • Take over a technical setup entirely so you're not stuck troubleshooting

  • Coach you through brand strategy so you can make smarter decisions independently

  • Build out video tutorials tailored to your specific setup and goals

This isn't a marketing course where generic information gets thrown at you. It's specific, actionable, and designed for the business you're actually running.

"If you haven't learned something by the end of a meeting with me, I haven't handled the meeting correctly."

Introducing the Brand Alchemy Guide™

Four years of brand strategy work has a way of showing you patterns. The same questions come up. The same sticking points appear. And the same thing is almost always at the root of it: businesses aren't struggling because they lack effort — they're struggling because they lack alignment.

That realization is what led to the Brand Alchemy Guide™ — a psychology-driven branding workbook we created to give business owners a real framework for understanding their brand, not just decorating it.

This isn't a PDF of tips. It's a guided deep-dive into:

  • Your brand's identity, voice, and positioning

  • The psychology behind why people choose (or ignore) you

  • Messaging, content strategy, and visual cohesion

  • Real-world application prompts that tie it all together

Documents and templates on branding, marketing, and client strategy are displayed in a grid format. Notable text includes Brand Voice and Content Marketing.

It comes as both an interactive Canva workbook and a print-friendly PDF — because different people think differently, and this guide is built around that.

"By the end of this guide, you won’t just ‘have a brand.’ You’ll have clear direction, confident messaging, and a strategy that actually feels like you."

The Brand Alchemy Guide™ is available now for $17. Grab your copy here.

Wellness Brands, Photography, and a Season That Felt Right

This past year has been heavy on wellness brands — and honestly, it's been a breath of fresh air. Wellness is the space we started in, personally and professionally. Our background is rooted in spiritual, holistic, and mental wellness, and getting to bring that sensibility back into the work has been deeply meaningful.

We've also raised the bar on photography. Professional photos are now a standard part of onboarding for new website clients. Why? Because even the best-built website falls flat without quality visuals. We refer clients to local photographers we trust — people who have beautiful studios, flexible availability, and the skill to make any brand look polished.

Giving Back: Nonprofits We've Supported

Being a good neighbor matters to us. Over the past year, Creative Ghost has worked with:

  • Boone Pride

  • Make-A-Wish Iowa

  • The Cancer Warrior Truck

  • Downtown Boone | Main Street

  • Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation

And several others along the way.

If you're running a nonprofit and have a website, campaign, or marketing initiative you're trying to get off the ground — reach out. We're always open to discussing trade services or monetary donations. It doesn't hurt to ask!

Four Years, and Just Getting Started

This agency has grown more than we ever imagined — not just in clients or services, but in clarity. We know who we are, who we're for, and what kind of work actually makes a difference.

To every client, collaborator, referral partner, photographer, nonprofit, and community member who has been part of this journey: thank you. Genuinely. You're the reason this little agency is still standing — and still growing.

Here's to what's next. 👻🖤

Whether you need a new website, brand strategy support, or someone to finally explain your marketing in plain English — Creative Ghost is here!
